Great Barr industrial landmark set to vanish, despite long campaign by MP and workers to save factory
A city industrial landmark is reaching the end of the road – with the imminent closure of long-established factory Tucker Fasteners.Around 220 jobs are being lost after many decades of manufacturing at the Great Barr site, following an ultimately unsuccessful campaign by unions and MP to stave off closure.The factory will close its doors by the end of March, with some long-serving workers in line for payouts of up to £40,000.Unite regional official John Walsh said: “This is another sad day for West Midland manufacturing. The factory is due to close by the end of March and, to all intents and purposes, all the machinery will be lifted and shifted to Germany and America.
