Boeing plans to have robots fasten panels for 777 airliner fuselages, the company announced Monday.
It’s not yet clear how this would impact the workforce for the 777 and upcoming 777X, the updated version of the aircraft, although Boeing said any workers no longer needed for the fastening work would move to other positions. Earlier this year, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 accepted a new contract deal under which Boeing pledged to assemble the 777X in Washington.(…)
