There is a relatively small, but active group of fastener industry professionals that are active on Twitter, the infant real-time information network found at twitter.com and on smart phone applications. I started paying attention to twitter about two years ago, and at first I was sceptical about its use for business. Nevertheless, I set up an account, @McNulty_FTI, in the last quarter of 2010, and my activity on it has ranged from ignorant bystander to stealth observer to an occasional tweeter. Over the last year and a half, I am averaging a very modest seven tweets per month, but I must confess that it is a valuable and enjoyable business tool.
There are no big-time celebrities in the fastener Twitter world, but there are currently several hundred people participating. If you are using Twitter and are interested in fasteners, I suggest you get onboard and get some fastener tweeps. Common hashtags (keyword or topic in a Tweet) used by your fastener colleagues are #fasteners and #fastlink. (…)
