Are You Ready For Some Football?
One Woman’s Perspective on Life and the Fastener IndustryI love watching NFL games purely for the sport of them. Something about them allows me to fancy they are expertly coordinated backyard pickup games. As time passes, I understand the “expertly coordinated” part more, which has allowed me a richer appreciation for the game as a whole, and the role of the coaches and front office in particular. Try to set aside your NFL team loyalty for a minute while I share some thoughts about leadership that undoubtedly apply as much to football as to the fastener industry.
Recently I watched a televised special about legendary coaches that ended with Coach Mike Holmgren being inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. The show included speeches by former players, front office executives and Holmgren that all gave perspectives on why the Packers were able to be successful during Holmgren’s tenure as coach from 1992-1998. Following are the high points.
Demand the best from your players
Teach life
The team is greater than the individual
Practice like you play on game day
Settle down your gunslinger
Former players have value
Mentor and develop young leaders (…)
