Newly designed TORX® TTAP® drive system being rolled out
Acument® Global Technologies and TtapDrive AS have joined forces to introduce the premier fastener drive system by incorporating each company’s proprietary products. By combining the TORX® and TORX PLUS® drive system from Acument and the new and improved TTAP® feature from TtapDrive, we believe the goal has been accomplished; the new TORX® TTAP® and TORX PLUS® TTAP® drive systems.
Over the years, there have been a variety of designs introduced providing a “stick-fit” between a fastener and the mating drive tool. One of the more common approaches used is to modify the recess and the tool with tapers that, at least according to design, are to wedge together giving the hoped for stable, stick-fit function. There are two common problems with these designs:
1) They tend to require a specific minimum depth of the recess in order to have enough room to allow the wedging to occur. Quite often, it is not possible to have that much depth due to constraints in the head designs itself. Making a deeper recess also reduces tooling life and increases production cost. Using a tapered driver makes it difficult to have the same driver bit for different head styles and depth of recess.
2) By adding the tapered feature to the recess (particularly with the hexlobular designs), part of the recess itself is removed to create that wedge, thus reducing the drive system strength. Very often, when you provide stick-fit by having a tapered driver bit, it causes the bit to fit too tightly. If you compare the new TORX® and TORX PLUS® TTAP® drive systems with other stick-fit solutions, you can “feel the difference.” TORX® and TORX PLUS® TTAP® drives are made so they will work with all your recessed screws – both standard and non-standard. It is especially unique for providing stick-fit on low profile head screws.
One of the elements of the new and improved TTAP® design is that the wedging feature is located solely in the pilot of the recess and not on the lobes of the drive system. By improving this feature with a proprietary new wedging concept, the TTAP® design provides several improvements. The changes have shown improved screwdriver bit-to-recess ‘cling’, also called “stick-fit”. You also use the standard configuration shape of the TORX® or TORX PLUS® drive recess, meaning you have the full drive system strength these designs are known for. The result is that by adding the new and improved TTAP® feature to these recesses, you get the full advantage of the drive system along with the added benefit of stable, consistent stick-fit functionality. Plus, because of the strict manufacturing parameters of making TORX® and TORX PLUS® fasteners under Acument’s licensing controls, one can be assured the quality is the same throughout the world when purchasing this product.
The classic TORX® and TORX PLUS® TTAP® advantages over generic product are:
TTAP® is 100% backward convertible with TORX® and TORX PLUS® drive system meaning you can use TORX® or TORX PLUS® drive bits in the matching TTAP® screws.
Stick-fit: screwdriver’s pilot point, “stick-fit” in the new proprietary pilot point recess
No wobbling: driver does not wobble and cam-out of the recess
Virtually eliminates push load: reduces fatigue and muscular stress
One-handed operation: is possible; because it is stable, you don’t need one hand on the fastener and the other on the driver
No magnetic bit holder needed: thus there are no steel splinters to clog the bit
Guiding: screwdriver enters the fastener recess more easily, great for collated fasteners as well as manual and automatic feeding.
TORX® and TORX PLUS® TTAP® drive systems are perfect for most building construction installations and improvement projects by professionals and DIY.
Widely used in the automotive industry, the TORX PLUS® drive system offers unmatched drive system strength. Already a standard with Ford Motor Company, TORX PLUS® is also popular in other industries such as aerospace and electronics. If you desire the premium leading edge technology for your drive system, TORX PLUS® TTAP® could be the ultimate drive system for your fastener!
