According to Time Business, the 1.2% increase in US construction spending during the month of February was mainly attributed to a rise in single family home construction, which increased by 4.3%. The increased demand for homes has also helped drive prices up. According to the article, in February, “U.S. homebuilders requested permits for future construction at the fastest pace in 4 1/2 years. And they started to build single-family homes at the fastest pace in that time period.”
Construction spending levels rose for the first time in five years during 2012, and the article reports that 2013’s spending levels appear to be strong as well. Office, health care, public, and state and local construction spending also increased during February. As more buildings are being constructed, the demand for building materials rises as well.
