(…) In 2010, the CAMCAR plant in Belvidere was down to 100 workers and its Michigan-based parent, Acument Global Technologies, was reviewing whether to shut the operation down entirely and move the work elsewhere.
It wouldn’t have been a surprise. The East Madison Street plant, where workers mainly make fasteners for the automotive industry, was all that was left of the old Textron Fastening Systems. TFS used to employ 3,300 people locally making nuts and bolts at a dozen plants. (…)
