Sometimes you get hit by a thought or topic numerous times within a short period of time and it makes you take notice and wonder why the topic keeps coming up.  Just happened this week.  Our local newspaper ran an article this past Sunday (front page) on how Steris Corp. of Mentor, Ohio cannot find enough qualified people to fill manufacturing jobs they have brought back (even, “re-shored”) to Northeast Ohio. Specifically, the article says that Steris has been able to fill only 55 of the 70 positions and that finding skilled machine operators has been a chore.

Then, I listed to the most recent Fully Threaded Radio episode and Charlie Kerr of Kerr Lakeside essentially repeated what was said in the article.  Kerr has job opportunities for skilled machinists and has even considered offering to teach a course at a high school level to introduce some skills that might trigger a young person to seek a job as a skilled machinists.  The continued growth of his company depends on his ability to recruit and maintain a skilled labor force.
